An album, not a grid of thumbnails

A collage PDF is usually wanted for something to keep or to share: a trip, a wedding, a school year, the progress photos of a building. This page opens as an album. The first page is a cover with your title and the first photo; then six photos to a page with the date each was taken underneath, on ivory paper, and a fresh page with the day written at the top whenever the date changes. Every one of those is a setting you can change on the Pages step.

A worked example: seven photos from one day opened here as a cover with the first photo, then six to a page with dates, on ivory — a three-page PDF of 128,612 bytes.

Arrange it on the page

The pages are on screen as you work. Drag one photo onto another to swap them, drag inside a slot to choose which part of the photo shows, and double-click under a photo to caption it. The layouts across the top are drawn from your own photos, so you see what three to a column or nine to a page will look like before choosing it. The contact sheet puts twelve to a page with the file names, which is the quickest way to make a printable index of a folder.

Sizes and paper

Albums usually want A4 or Letter, but a 4 × 6 or 5 × 7 inch page prints at a photo lab. The paper colour fills the space around and between photos — white, ivory, stone, charcoal or any colour — and the captions turn light on dark paper. For two photos side by side, try two photos on one page; for several to a page without the album touches, multiple images in one page; and to email it, the size-limited builder brings it under a limit.

Questions about photo collage PDF maker

How many photos go on a page?

Six by default, with the date under each. The strip above the pages switches to 2, 3, 4 or 9 to a page, or a contact sheet of twelve with the file names, in one press or with the keys 1 to 7.

Can each day start a new page?

Yes, and it does here: photos from different days never share a page, and each day's first page carries the date as a heading. Sort by time taken first if the photos arrived out of order.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Family photos are laid out and written into the album by this browser, and nothing is sent anywhere.

What does the PDF contain?

The cover, the pages and their captions, all as images: no text layer, no camera or location data from the photos, and no title field unless you type one.

Can I write my own captions?

Yes. Double-click under a photo on the page, or press T with it selected, and type. A typed caption always wins over the date or the file name.
